TENNESSEE MUSIC SUMMIT On March 11-13, 2011 the Tennessee Music Summit (TMS) will be hosting a full weekend of events to expose new talents, educate, commemorate, and celebrate the contributions of Tennessee Music to American Music. These contributions have been essential in moving the Art of Music progressively through history.
From the rich soil of Tennessee, birth the first Country recording by Jimmie Rodgers in a small town called Bristol. Nashville for decades has been proclaimed “Music U.S.A.” for the entertainment platform provided. On Beale Street in Memphis, an African American composer by the name of W. C. Handy became known as the Father of Blues. In Addition, Memphis also became famous for being the birthplace of Rock and Roll producing such legends as Elvis Presley and national tourist sites like Graceland. Even in the world of Gospel, combining education with talent is a historical group called the Fisk Jubilee Singers of Fisk University. Smaller markets in Tennessee like Jackson are known for producing great musicians and singers like Denise LaSalle. Still today, Tennessee continues to make incredible impacts on music, including Hip Hop, like Academy Award winning Artists such as Three 6 Mafia.
On Friday, March 11, TMS will celebrate Family and the Youth by hosting a Town Hall meeting about issues that affect our teens and family. Followed by an After Party which will include an Open Mic Contest for new upcoming talents. A book scholarship will be given to the winner of the contest and a cash prize.
On Saturday, March 12, TMS will host the “Official After Party of the Jackson Music Awards” which will honor Mrs. Denise La Salle for her contributions to Music.
On Sunday, March 13, TMS will “Walk through Jackson’s Music History” by touring the Wolfe Museum from Noon until 3pm. Lastly, TMS will host a full Music Conference including three Music Industry panels and showcase National and Upcoming Talents. The panels will future special Music Executives that will share knowledge and wisdom to advance those inspiring to have a career in the Music Business.
